Oil Changes & Fluid Service
Regular oil changes are the foundation of vehicle longevity. We use quality oil and filters, complete a thorough inspection, and get you back on the road quickly.
More Than Just an Oil Change
Every RoKr Auto oil change includes a comprehensive multi-point inspection at no extra charge—because preventive maintenance saves you money long-term. Our service includes draining old oil and replacing with quality conventional or synthetic oil matched to your vehicle's OEM specifications, installing a new oil filter (we stock quality filters for Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, BMW, and all major makes), checking and topping off all fluids (coolant, brake, power steering, transmission, washer), inspecting belts and hoses for wear or cracking, checking tire pressure and tread depth, testing battery condition and terminals, and visually inspecting brakes, suspension, and exhaust systems. Austin's extreme summer temperatures—often exceeding 100°F—accelerate fluid breakdown, making regular service critical for engines operating under thermal stress. If we find anything that needs attention, we'll let you know with photos and plain-English explanations—but we never pressure you into unnecessary services. Our ASE-certified technicians document every inspection so you can track your vehicle's condition over time and plan maintenance on your schedule and budget.
Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil
Not sure which oil is right for your vehicle? Our ASE-certified technicians recommend the best option based on your manufacturer's requirements, driving conditions, and mileage. Synthetic oil offers superior protection in Austin's extreme heat, extended drain intervals (typically 7,500–10,000 miles), improved fuel economy, and cleaner engine operation—it resists thermal breakdown at high temperatures far better than conventional oil. Conventional oil is suitable for older vehicles or those with lower mileage requirements, and offers adequate protection with 3,000–5,000 mile intervals. Many modern Toyota, Honda, Subaru, BMW, and European vehicles specifically require full synthetic oil and will suffer premature wear with conventional alternatives—we follow manufacturer specifications precisely, not outdated 3,000-mile rules of thumb. Central Texas driving conditions (stop-and-go I-35 traffic, 100°F+ summer temperatures, short trips that don't fully warm the engine) qualify as 'severe duty' by most manufacturers, which means shorter service intervals than the standard schedule. We stock premium synthetic oils from trusted brands including Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, and Valvoline, and always use the correct viscosity grade (0W-20, 5W-30, etc.) for your specific engine.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get an oil change?
It depends on your vehicle and oil type. Most modern vehicles using synthetic oil can go 7,500–10,000 miles between changes. Conventional oil typically requires changes every 3,000–5,000 miles. Austin's extreme summer heat can accelerate oil breakdown, so we recommend following your manufacturer's severe-duty schedule if you frequently drive in stop-and-go traffic or high temperatures. We'll check your owner's manual and driving conditions to recommend the right interval for you.
What's the difference between synthetic and conventional oil?
Synthetic oil is engineered for superior performance—it resists breakdown at high temperatures, flows better in cold weather, and lasts longer between changes. Conventional oil is petroleum-based and adequate for older vehicles with simpler engines. Many modern vehicles require full synthetic oil per the manufacturer. We'll recommend the correct oil type and viscosity based on your vehicle's specifications, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
What's included in your oil change service?
Every oil change includes draining old oil, replacing with manufacturer-specified oil, installing a new quality oil filter, and a complimentary multi-point inspection covering fluids, belts, hoses, tire pressure, battery condition, and a visual brake and suspension check. If we spot anything that needs attention, we'll let you know—no pressure, just information so you can plan ahead.
Do I need an appointment for an oil change?
We recommend scheduling an appointment to minimize wait time, but we do accommodate walk-ins when possible. Most oil changes are completed in 30–45 minutes. You can schedule online 24/7 or call us at (512) 649-2121 during business hours.
