Hybrid & EV Repair Expertise

Hybrid and electric vehicles require specialized knowledge and equipment. Our ASE-certified team has the training and tools to service your hybrid or EV safely and effectively.

Certified Hybrid & EV Expertise

Hybrid and electric vehicles combine traditional automotive systems with high-voltage electrical components (200–800 volts) that demand specialized training, insulated tools, and safety protocols. RoKr Auto has invested in the certifications, diagnostic equipment, and personal protective equipment required to work on these advanced vehicles safely and effectively. We service all major hybrid and EV makes and models popular in the Austin area, including Toyota Prius, Camry Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, and RAV4 Prime; Honda Insight, Accord Hybrid, and CR-V Hybrid; Ford Escape Hybrid, Maverick Hybrid, and F-150 Lightning; Chevrolet Volt, Bolt EV, and Bolt EUV; Nissan Leaf and Ariya; Hyundai Ioniq, Tucson Hybrid, and Santa Fe Hybrid; Kia Niro, Sportage Hybrid, and EV6; and Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. From routine maintenance like brake service (which lasts longer due to regenerative braking), tire rotation (EV tires wear faster due to instant torque), and cabin air filter replacement, to complex diagnostics of high-voltage battery packs, DC-DC converters, inverters, onboard chargers, and electric motor assemblies, we handle your hybrid or EV with care and expertise. Many dealerships outsource hybrid work or charge significant premiums—we provide equivalent expert service at fair, transparent rates at our Pond Springs Rd shop.

Hybrid Battery & System Diagnostics

Is your hybrid showing reduced fuel economy, the hybrid battery warning light, decreased power, or the gas engine running more than expected? RoKr Auto performs comprehensive hybrid and EV system diagnostics to identify issues with high-voltage battery packs, inverters, DC-DC converters, onboard chargers, cooling systems, regenerative braking calibration, and power management software. Our diagnostic process includes hybrid battery state-of-health testing (measuring overall pack capacity vs. original), individual cell and module voltage analysis to identify weak cells dragging down the pack, battery thermal management system inspection (coolant flow, fan operation, temperature sensors), inverter and motor controller diagnostics, 12V auxiliary battery condition testing (a common overlooked cause of hybrid warning lights), and high-voltage interlock and safety system verification. Based on our findings, we provide honest recommendations: many hybrid batteries can be reconditioned by replacing only the degraded modules rather than the entire pack, saving significant money compared to full replacement. For batteries beyond reconditioning, we source quality replacement packs and handle the complete R&R with proper high-voltage safety procedures. Austin's heat accelerates battery degradation—thermal management system maintenance is especially important for hybrids in Central Texas to maximize battery lifespan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an independent shop service my hybrid or EV without voiding the warranty?

Yes. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects your right to have your vehicle serviced at any qualified shop without voiding the manufacturer's warranty. As long as the work is performed according to manufacturer specifications using appropriate parts, your warranty remains intact. Our ASE-certified technicians follow factory procedures and document all service performed.

How do I know if my hybrid battery is failing?

Common signs include noticeably reduced fuel economy, the hybrid battery warning light illuminating, reduced power or acceleration, the gas engine running more than usual, or the vehicle not entering EV-only mode when it should. Some degradation is normal over time, but sudden changes warrant a diagnostic. We perform individual cell voltage testing to determine battery health and whether repair, reconditioning, or replacement is needed.

Is it safe to service a hybrid or EV at a regular shop?

Only if the shop has proper training and equipment. High-voltage systems in hybrids and EVs (typically 200–800 volts) require specialized safety protocols, insulated tools, and certified training. Our technicians are trained in high-voltage safety procedures and our shop is equipped with the proper safety gear and diagnostic tools for hybrid and EV service. Not all shops have this capability.

Do hybrids and EVs need less maintenance than gas cars?

In some ways, yes. Regenerative braking means brake pads last longer, and EVs have no oil to change. However, hybrids still need engine oil changes, and both hybrids and EVs require tire rotations, cabin air filters, coolant service (for battery thermal management), brake fluid flushes, and suspension maintenance. The maintenance schedule is different, not nonexistent—we can help you understand exactly what your specific vehicle needs.
